Whether you’re racing or strolling, every step celebrates wellness, community, and the joy of moving together. Join us and be part of a Northland tradition that keeps hearts warm and feet moving! This event supports Safe Haven Shelter & Resource Center. A portion of the proceeds of the event as well as all partnership and participant donations go to helping Safe Haven continue their essential work in our community. The race starts between S. 12th Ave. E. and S. 13th Ave. E. on London Road, just outside the Rose Garden.

To understand the challenges African Americans still face in being seen as full citizens in America today, it is important for us to understand the origin story of the path of formerly enslaved people becoming citizens. The past is not dead; it is not even really the past. This film, created with our movie production partner OMG Studios, features Federal Minnesota District Court Judge Jerry Blackwell, author of Just Mercy and prominent civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, Macalester University Professor Duchess Harris, and a cameo by Minnesota’s First Lady of Civil Rights, Dr. Josie Johnson. Join the St. Louis River Alliance and Allouez Bay project partners on Tuesday, October 7, for a full moon gathering on Wisconsin Point. The evening begins at 4:30pm with a welcome in Lot 1. A self-guided walk along Bear Creek Trail (Makwa Ziibiins Miikana) will begin shortly after 4:30pm. Explore recent upgrades, including a pavilion, interpretive signage, and native plantings. At 5:15pm, gather for hot tea before the program begins (hopefully around a fire) at 5:30pm. Together, we’ll hear from partners leading the Allouez Bay Marsh Bird Habitat Project, including the St. Louis River Alliance, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Audubon Great Lakes, and the Lake Superior Headwaters Sustainability Partnership. They’ll introduce the project’s goals and share how they hope to include your voices in restoration design features. After 20+ years of operating child care and housing young mothers in the Spirit Valley building in West Duluth, YWCA Duluth is supporting Divine Konnections’ innovate work through the donation of 411 N. 57th Avenue West as well as two state-of-the-art, STEAM playgrounds. Divine Konnections is re-opening the building to continue to provide vital resources for West Duluth, naming it after YWCA Duluth’s past executive director, Karen Diver. With a BBQ sponsored in part by Whole Foods Co-op and SuperOne Foods, a ribbon cutting with the Duluth Chamber of Commerce at 3:30pm, tours of the newly opened Diver Morning Sky Hope & Healing Center, DJ beats and play on two brand new STEAM playgrounds for all ages, celebrating never felt so good!
