Find out on Friday, April 11th at 5:00 PM as the Superior Public Art Commission and the Douglas County Historical Society invite you to a special event featuring a meet-and-greet with local artist Susanna Gaunt and a unique opportunity to explore and reflect on the concept of collecting. This free event, part of the exhibit titled (Re)Collect, will offer a deeper dive into the intersection of art and history, inviting visitors to explore both contemporary works and items from the community’s extensive historical collection. For over 40 years, the Minnesota’s North Shore comes alive with the excitement of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon race, which celebrates and honors the spirit of John Beargrease and brings thousands of worldwide spectators in person and online, and hundreds of mushers and volunteers from across the nation. The series features several races, including the longest sled dog marathon in the lower 48 states, each race requiring mushers to fend off Minnesota’s extreme winter weather and rugged terrain. This year marks both the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald and the 40th anniversary of Split Rock Lighthouse’s annual memorial beacon lighting. Throughout the day, guests can explore the lighthouse, fog signal building, and visitor center. Guided tours and a brief film will be available that share the story of the Edmund Fitzgerald and her final voyage.
