Frame It Writer & Artist Event

“Frame It” is a new exhibition that combines writing and art. Come to the opening reception where there will be over 30 local artist vendors! An open mic will start at 3:00pm. Listen as creatives share their work or take to the stage yourself! Free to attend. Celebrate writing and local artists in the City of Superior at the Douglas County Historical Society on May 3, 2026 from 2:00-6:00 pm. The exhibition runs through May, and art will be hanging in the Douglas County Historical Society all month.

Mr. Nobody Against Putin

Duluth Sister Cities is sponsoring a free showing of the Oscar award-winning film, Mr. Nobody vs. Putin at Zeitgeist Theater on Wednesday, April 29 at 6:30pm. Russian teacher, Pavel “Pasha” Talankin, documents the systematic indoctrination of his students after Russia declared war with Ukraine. This powerful film explores the complexities of modern geopolitics through a deeply human lens. Following the screening, DSCI board member JP Gresh — who has served as a military attaché in both Ukraine and Russia — will lead a discussion on cultural dynamics in Russia and the long-term impact of Russia’s war on Ukraine. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Douglas Nord Presents “Sister Cities Diplomacy”

Sponsored by the Alworth Institute. Building Bridges: Learning from Duluth’s Experiences in Pursuing Community Based Diplomacy Thursday, April 23rd, 6PM
MW Alworth Hall, 195 Community Engagement in U.S.-Russian Relations from the Cold War to Today. Dr. Doug Nord will discuss his new book that examines Duluth’s conduct of sister-city diplomacy over the past four decades, exploring how community engagement in international affairs was initiated and conducted and the lessons that can be learned from Duluth’s experience. Special attention will be paid to the linkages between Duluth and Petrozavodsk, Russia.

Tea Talks: Deltiology in Downtown Duluth

Deltiology is the study and collection of postcards. Come see some historic Real Photo Postcards of people that were produced in Downtown Duluth over 100 years ago. Postcards were the original selfie and even a form of social media back in the early 1900s. Gina Temple-Rhodes is a local history researcher, history nerd and former librarian. She has been digging into the local historic record for 30 years. Welcome to Tea Talks, interesting talks by interesting people about topics they are passionate about, in a cozy and informal space. We provide the talks and tea, bring your curiosity!
