Deltiology is the study and collection of postcards. Come see some historic Real Photo Postcards of people that were produced in Downtown Duluth over 100 years ago. Postcards were the original selfie and even a form of social media back in the early 1900s. Gina Temple-Rhodes is a local history researcher, history nerd and former librarian. She has been digging into the local historic record for 30 years. Welcome to Tea Talks, interesting talks by interesting people about topics they are passionate about, in a cozy and informal space. Explore digital art in this fun five-day camp! Students will learn how artists use tablets to draw, paint, edit images, and create simple animations. A limited number of iPads will be available to use in class, and students are welcome to bring their own tablet. Please select your ticket option accordingly so we can make sure everyone has an iPad. Learn the fundamentals of porcupine quill embroidery, focusing on the traditional zig zag stitching technique used to attach dyed quills to leather. Gain an introduction to the materials, pattern planning, and stitching methods used in this form of quillwork. Students will leave with a foundational knowledge of the technique and a handmade leather tobacco pouch stitched with their own quillwork design.
