Have you ever wanted to live in a holiday movie? Picture this: You’re strolling through a charming city that’s bursting with holiday cheer, just minding your own business…and then BAM, your true love walks into your life out of nowhere. While we can’t guarantee that last part, we can promise that a day in Duluth during the holidays is a sure-fire way to enjoy some magic and cross “star in your own holiday movie” off your bucket list.

Like the beginning of so many holiday movies, we recommend starting your day with a quick run or walk along the Lakewalk (plowed in the winter!) or, conditions permitting, hike, ski or snowshoe in one of Duluth’s many beautiful parks. You never know who you might cross paths with!

After some movement, visit a local coffee shop to warm up. Sit and sip a festive beverage and ponder the day ahead. Melancholy and self-reflection about the trajectory of your life are optional.

Even the pros know Duluth exudes holiday magic. Both Lincoln Park and Downtown Duluth have been featured in recent Hulu and Hallmark holiday movies. Follow in the footsteps of the rom-com characters and experience these charming neighborhoods and beyond, grabbing some gifts from local makers and shops or simply enjoying window shopping and festive displays. If you time your visit right, you could even stroll through the Duluth Winter Village.

Savor a tasty lunch before an afternoon adventure to a quintessential spot. After all, a day in the life of a holiday movie character isn’t complete without a stop in the local bookstore, is it? Visit Zenith Bookstore and cozy up with a good read. But don’t get too enthralled in the pages, or you might miss your soulmate walking through the door!

After the bookstore, if you’re in the market for a Christmas tree, or just want a cute photo op, stop by the Duluth Farmers Market tree lot or head over to Farmer Doug’s for a cut-your-own experience. And of course it wouldn’t be a holiday movie without some delightful goodies. Swing by a Duluth bakery or candy shop to satisfy your sweet tooth and refuel for the evening ahead.

Your next activity of choice will provide even more opportunities for a meet-cute. Visit Glensheen Mansion to be transported back in time, hop aboard the North Shore Scenic Railroad’s Christmas City Express, take in a show, or spend the evening at the award-winning walk-through light display, Bentleyville. No matter what you choose, there’s a chance love might just be in the air.

Now, if holiday movies have taught us anything, it’s likely you’ve run into your true love (or a new bestie) at least a time or two throughout the day. Maybe the two of you even had some kind of misunderstanding (gasp!) and are hoping for a second chance. Either way, invite them to enjoy a meal, visit a brewery or cidery, or grab a cocktail, and let the magic of Duluth’s holiday season do the rest!
