Springing Into Action

When spring hits, there’s nothing better than getting outside and reacquainting yourself with the sun. Hello, old friend. Of course, spring brings rain clouds from time to time, but we don’t let that block our shine. Here are a few ways to savor the season in Duluth.

Outdoor Adventure

Whether you’re bopping around a state park, on the lake or up a creek, we’ve got tons of ways to get outside. Just keep this in mind:  during spring’s annual thaw cycle, Duluth’s natural surface trails are closed until they are dry enough for use without damage. “Run, Smelt, Run!”

Find yourself near Canal Park in early May and you might spy a gang of people clad in tinfoil, walking on stilts and waving fish in the air. No, this isn’t Tin Man cosplay. It’s the annual Magic Smelt Parade, a spring celebration as delightfully offbeat as it is unique.
