In March 2024 we celebrate Bedrich Smetana’s 200th birthday. The Czech composer is best known for his cycle of tone poems called Ma Vlast (My Fatherland). Our concert, Slavic Soul, will feature two of these tone poems, the grand musical description of Prague’s famous castle Vysehrad  as well as the most beloved Vltava (The Moldau). Completing the program are Tchaikovsky’s hyper-romantic Romeo and Juliet as well as Clara Schumann’s beautiful Piano Concerto, performed by Ukrainian-American pianist Anna Shelest. Our wonderful concertmaster, Erin Aldridge, will then be joining us for the beautiful, yet seldom performed, Violin Concerto No.2 by Henryk Wieniawski. Finally, by popular demand, we bring back Sibelius’s wonderful Symphony No. 2, which both audiences and musicians indicated as a favorite.

The Guess Who is a legendary Canadian band who enjoyed chart topping hits in the late 60s and early 70s with an impressive catalogue of songs including “American Woman,” “These Eyes,” and “No Time.” During the course of its career, the band has released 11 studio albums, and charted 14 Top 40 hit singles, 2 of which went to number one in the United States. The Guess Who is best known internationally for its 1970 album, American Woman, which hit number one in Canada and number nine in the United States, with five other albums also hitting the top ten in Canada. BLUEY’S BIG PLAY brings to stage the Emmy-winning, Australian children’s television series for the very first time. The show, on Disney+, is beloved and lauded around the world. Bluey, Bingo, Chili, and Bandit become scaled-up, life-size puppets for this original story from Joe Brumm, writer of the television series. The eight puppeteers present various styles of gorgeous puppetry to a soundtrack created for the show by the original television cast. The show is engaging and entertaining with the whole family in mind. We encourage the whole family to enjoy the show together. Kids love the imaginative stories, characters and play, and parents love the lessons and parallels to real parenting struggles. The total running time is approximately 50 minutes.
