Whiplash, Casablanca, Austin Powers, and even A Charlie Brown Christmas are all examples of the deep history of big band jazz showing up in film, and also share the distinction of being movies we’re playing tunes from in the Duluth Community Jazz Band’s winter concert. DCJB is made up of passionate, talented community musicians who are your friends, neighbors, and coworkers that want to play high level music but not as a profession. Don’t let the word “community” fool you – this band can really swing. This concert was made possible by a generous grant from The Depot Foundation, and is free of admission asking only for a charitable donation to support community music if you are able.

The goal, according to Michelle, “is to provide a common space where all can learn about and experience some of our local Native American heritage.” Native American Heritage Day gives families and folks who are just curious the opportunity to see, hear, and taste our regional Ojibwe culture. Kids can decorate a bandolier bag (or gashkibidaagan) or gather in the wigwam for story time. Enjoy…
