Welcome Aboard UMD Large Lakes Observatory’s R/V Blue Heron! Every summer, the Large Lakes Observatory hosts Science on Deck events, offering free public tours and presentations on the research vessel (R/V) Blue Heron. The Blue Heron is part of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS), and is chartered by research scientists to explore the Great Lakes. Throughout the summer, the Blue Heron will dock at Pier B Resort, extend the gangway, and invite the community to meet the crew, scientists and students. Presentations begin at 1:30pm on the back deck with our featured speakers. Science on Deck 2025 Dates Free and open to the public from 11am – 3pm! The American Heart Association is hosting an annual family friendly event to help celebrate heart and stroke survivors, and honor those we’ve lost to heart disease and stroke. The event is FREE to attend and open to the public but we do encourage people to register online at www.northlandheartwalk.org. We offer an hour of fun activities starting at 9AM aimed at educating and inspiring people to live longer, healthier lives. There will then be a brief Opening Ceremony at 10AM followed by the walk. The Lakewalk will have signage marking 1-mile and 2-mile distances, but Walkers are welcome to turn around at any point. The event is free to attend, but we welcome donations in any amount inviting the community to help us raise critically needed funds to support research and education, and join us in the fight against heart disease and stroke!
Chester Bowl’s 42nd Annual Fall Fest is on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 from 9:30-4:30. Fall Fest is all about building community with friends and neighbors in the park! At this regional craft event you will enjoy music, food, crafts, locally grown fresh produce, vendors, and informational booths about local programs. This annual event hosts 135 vendors selling locally made crafts and art, a great line up of music, fifteen food trucks (if you go home hungry you are doing Fall Fest wrong), and activities for children and families. In addition, Chester Bowl branded clothing and other items are always sold at our tent just inside the front gate. Fall Fest is a fundraising event for Chester Bowl’s scholarship fund. Suggested donations of $5 per person or $10 per family will be accepted at the entrance to support the scholarships we will award in the coming year. Last year our community…
