A spooky end to our local racing calendar, the Superior Nightmare 5K brings with it plenty of scary surprises and haunted hijinks. Dress your best for this annual combination of Halloween and running, and be sure to enter our costume contest to decide the day’s best-dressed! All Superior Nightmare 5K adult participants will receive a commemorative full-zip jacket and all youth participants will receive a commemorative hooded sweatshirt, included with the entry fee. The Spider Dash Kids’ Races are FREE and open to all participants ages 14 & under. The kids’ races will start at 11:45 a.m., shortly after the conclusion of the main race. Join the St. Louis River Alliance and Allouez Bay project partners on Tuesday, October 7, for a full moon gathering on Wisconsin Point. The evening begins at 4:30pm with a welcome in Lot 1. A self-guided walk along Bear Creek Trail (Makwa Ziibiins Miikana) will begin shortly after 4:30pm. Explore recent upgrades, including a pavilion, interpretive signage, and native plantings. At 5:15pm, gather for hot tea before the program begins (hopefully around a fire) at 5:30pm. Together, we’ll hear from partners leading the Allouez Bay Marsh Bird Habitat Project, including the St. Louis River Alliance, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Audubon Great Lakes, and the Lake Superior Headwaters Sustainability Partnership. They’ll introduce the project’s goals and share how they hope to include your voices in restoration design features. This connection is what binds us as inhabitants of an increasingly fragile planet. The exhibit, North Shore Life represents work created since moving to the North Shore from the Twin Cities seventeen years ago!
