Arrowhead Chorale is joined by world-renowned organist, Richard Elliott, for their upcoming concert, “Requiem of Light: The Music of Maurice Duruflé.” This unique program honors the 40th anniversary of Maurice Duruflé’s passing and highlights his deeply moving “Requiem” with full choir, orchestra, and organ. Elliott will also perform selected organ works that showcase Duruflé’s lush harmonic language and meditative style, born of his fascination with plainchant. In addition to our talented orchestra, we are honored to welcome Dr. Richard Elliott, principal organist of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, for this tribute to one of the 20th century’s most revered organist-composers. Playing an instrument is great, but how do you play with others? That’s precisely what we will learn! We will focus on two tunes at beginner-friendly tempos: “Bill Cheatham” (in A) and “Going Down that Road Feelin’ Bad” (in G). You can pick up the melody by ear at the workshop or prepare it in advance. Notation and tab are available upon registration to students who request it. This workshop is specifically designed for adults who know the basics on their instrument, but haven’t ventured out to any jams — yet. It is best suited for fiddle, mandolin, banjo, and guitar players. The workshop starts at 11:00 AM, but come at 10:30 AM for coffee and socializing! Coffee and baked goods provided!
