Rory Van James is a singer/songwriter from Duluth, MN. A former professional baseball player turned musician, Rory has carved out a unique voice through years of travel and performance. After debuting his first album The Passage, written in the solitude of Alaska and recorded in Seattle, he launched his ambitious double-vinyl project Sewn Silhouettes, recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London and Sage Arts Studio in Washington, and released in 2020.

Lydia Boyum & Ryan Lane are a singer/songwriter duo from Duluth, MN. Drawing from folk, Americana, and indie genres, they blend poetic and witty lyrics with catchy melodies in their original songs. Their music is influenced by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Jason Isbell, Kris Kristofferson, and Colbie Caillat. Lydia’s debut EP, “Paradise Lost,” as well as Ryan’s debut album, “Aspiring Romantic,” can be found on all streaming platforms.
First in Several Artworks by Catherine Meier seen along the North Shore of Lake Superior As visitors make a trip up the North Shore for Fall Colors, they can seek out and enjoy recent art by Finland, Minnesota artist Catherine Meier at several stops up Highway 61. The University of Minnesota Duluth is the first stop, in the newly refreshed fourth floor of the Kathryn A. Martin Library. There, visitors and students alike can read, write, and reflect under Meier’s Navigating by Color series, three paintings entitled “East,” “South,” and “West, from where the Baptism River meets Lake Superior.” Meier’s work, funded by a University of Minnesota Institute on the Environment grant, is inspired by her life on the shores of Lake Superior and by Jonathan Raban’s book, Passage to Juneau: A Sea and its Meanings.
