Doc & Talk Film Series: Gaining Ground

Documentary Films Followed by Community Conversations Set during the economic meltdown, Gaining Ground follows the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative in Boston as a new generation of leaders fights foreclosures and creates jobs and opportunities in one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods. Complimentary equity tickets are available upon request at the box office for low- or no-income community members, or anyone facing a financial barrier to attending the Doc & Talk Series.

Duluth Fiber Guild Fiber Fair & Sale

Duluth Fiber Guild members are preparing for their Annual Fiber Art Fair & Sale. The event is open to the public and will be held Saturday, November 15, from 10 am – 3 pm at the First United Methodist Church (the Coppertop) at 230 E. Skyline Parkway, Duluth. The Annual Fiber Art Fair & Sale offers high-quality finely crafted textile art items, including: handwovens (scarves, table runners, fine tea towels, wall hangings, placemats); handknits (socks, hats, mittens, scarves, sweaters); felted items (ornaments, framed originals, birdhouses, bowls, scarves); baskets; fleece and roving from local farms; hand spun yarn; up-cycled items made from discarded fabrics and more. Items are made from natural fibers: wool, cotton, bamboo, silk, tencel, rayon, and linen. Some of the fibers are produced on local sheep and alpaca farms, and the spinning group is experimenting with growing flax and processing it into linen. All items are locally made….

Jon Edwards, Ross Thorn & Slapdash Bluegrass, and Uncle Muskrat

Jon Edwards is a traditional blues and folks musician based out of Duluth, MN. He draws from the likes of Charlie Parr, Dave Van Ronk, Spider John Koerner and many others. He started playing shows a year ago and spent last summer on the road playing barn dances. He also just celebrated the release of his third studio album! Ross Thorn’s poignant lyricism joins good buddies Simon and Helen of Slapdash Bluegrass for a supergroup set!
