The 46th Annual Northland Figure Skating Competition will be held at the DECC Arena and AMSOIL Arena. Admission to the event is free. Community members are encouraged to attend and see, first hand, the amazing talents of the competitors. Please note parking at the DECC is $10 a day. Keep your parking ticket on your vehicle’s dash for easy re-entry each day. Schedule Overview: Thursday: Quiet rink events at DECC Arena & AMSOIL Arena (2:00 PM – 9:00 PM) featuring spins and jumps with no music. Friday: Freeskate programs with music at DECC Arena & AMSOIL Arena (starting at 8:00 AM). Saturday: A full day of freeskate and spin events at DECC Arena (starting at 8:00 AM). Bring your antique/collectible item for a free appraisal to the St. Louis County Depot at 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth, Minnesota. The St. Louis County Historical Society has arranged for Denny Mager of Northern Specialty, an expert in antique appraisal, to be at your service beginning at noon in the Union Lounge (outside of the Board Room), which is on street level. Follow event signage. Registration is in person only and cut-off at 2:30PM, so the appraiser can finish appraisals by 3PM. Guests are called up in the order that they are registered. You may bring up to two items per person for an informal oral identification and evaluation of each antique. If the piece is too large or fragile to be hand-carried, clear photographs with a description of any marks and labels will be sufficient. We are combining our annual Winter Dance Party fundraiser for the Armory Arts & Music Center with an opportunity to honor the life of our longtime friend and musician Todd Eckart. No tickets for this event but a there is a chance to offer a freewill donation of $20 at the door. 5:00pm – 6:00pm – Social Hour and Silent Auction of Todd’s suit coats, ties and other memorabilia (organized by family) 6:00pm – Musical tribute to Todd by his band, AAMC Program with emcee Solomon Witherspoon, followed by more music and dance party including a dance contest with fun prizes. 8:00pm – Hugs, thanks you’s and goodbyes
The Polar Plunges are annual events organized by Special Olympics Minnesota; an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities. Plunge participation helps make a significant difference in supporting these athletes. Those who fundraise for their Polar Plunge get the chance to jump into a lake. If you fundraise, you are not required to jump. The event is open to the public to cheer on and support plungers! Volunteers are welcome! The plunge starts at 2:00pm (subject to change – check the website). Day of Registration/check-in is at 310 Pub starting at 11:00am. Check the website for more details!
