Great Lakes Aquarium is excited to partner with WDIO News for a highly anticipated forecast forum! The free, after-hours event will focus on getting into meteorology as women in a male-dominated field, detailing how meteorologists forecast, and exploring both the broadcast and government career paths. Guests are invited to explore the Aquarium’s exhibit floor before and after presentations. The Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being at the University of Wisconsin-Superior will host University of California, Berkeley, professor of psychology Dacher Keltner for a free virtual presentation “Awe: Meeting the Crisis of our Times” on Tuesday, April 28, 4:30–6 pm. Awe is the feeling we experience when we encounter vast mysteries we don’t fully understand. We find awe in the eight wonders of life, from moral beauty to music to nature to spiritual epiphany. New research shows that even a brief dose of awe benefits our brains, hearts, and immune systems, counters selfishness and anxiety, and encourages greater sharing, creativity, and sense of common humanity. Help us kick off National Library Week with Storytime and Crafts at the Great Lakes Aquarium! Join us for family-friendly crafts, storytimes at 10:15 AM and 11:15 AM, free library swag and prizes, and library staff to sign up new library card holders and reactivate library cards. And of course, all the aquarium has to offer! Admission will be free during the event, and parking in the aquarium lot will also be free.
Last year’s reigning champions, the Dewey Decimators, will return to defend their title at this year’s “Are You Smarter Than a Librarian?” Trivia Night. We’re teaming up with Bent Paddle Brewing and Trivia Mafia for a friendly trivia competition with library-themed rounds and prizes.
