The Driftless Revelers formed in the second spring of the first global pandemic of the 21st century, with one ear turned toward the shellac platters and Victrola virtuosos of the early to mid 20th century, and the other ear glued to the soundscapes of the 1960’s & 1970’s American freak-folk scene. The 3rd Annual Gender Joy Art Show is being held from May 4th to June 27th with an opening reception on Thursday, May 7th from 5-7pm. Organized by YWCA Duluth and PAVSA and exhibited in the Zeitgeist atrium and Teatro, this year’s show not only includes artwork from girls, women and gender expansive people but features survivor artwork from PAVSA’s weekly Art Group, all representing how each finds joy in their gender. Event attendees will get a chance to express themselves in an interactive community art project hosted by Art of Presence and will have an opportunity to heal through collective action and see their collaborative piece evolve into a finished painting displayed for the remainder of the show. For over 40 years, the Minnesota’s North Shore comes alive with the excitement of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon race, which celebrates and honors the spirit of John Beargrease and brings thousands of worldwide spectators in person and online, and hundreds of mushers and volunteers from across the nation. The series features several races, including the longest sled dog marathon in the lower 48 states, each race requiring mushers to fend off Minnesota’s extreme winter weather and rugged terrain.
