Join us in welcoming Emily Vikre, nationally recognized author and co-owner of Vikre Distillery in Duluth for a meet and greet book signing. Emily Vikre is a native Duluthian who holds a PhD in food policy and behavioral theory from Tufts University. She is co-founder and co-owner of Vikre Distillery, which has been named best craft spirits distillery by USA Today. A nationally recognized food and drinks writer, Emily is the author of Camp Cocktails, The Family Camp Cookbook, New Camp Cookbook Fireside Warmers, and On the Trail. She was formerly a regular columnist for Food52 and has written for Lucky Peach, Minnesota Public Radio, and Norwegian American Weekly. She lives in Duluth, MN with her husband and two kids. Her favorite activities are skiing, hiking in the woods, dancing ballet, and cooking for friends and family.
The Northland 5K for Food Allergy is back for our 3rd year with a new starting location, but all the same family-friendly, food allergy fun you’ve come to expect! This 3.1 mile out and back, chip-timed, run/walk will begin and end at Endion Station in Canal Park, Duluth, MN. There will be awards for the top male and female finishers and prize drawings for all registered 5K participants! We will once again be hosting a Kids’ Fun Run for anyone 12 and under immediately following the 5K, expected start time will be between 9-9:30am. Allergy-conscious food/beverages will be enjoyed after the event. Additionally, there will be lawn games, kids activities, allergy-aware business/product info and samples to take home, as well as representation from the Duluth Fire Fighters and EMT staff.
Tickets are not required to attend the event. Guests are welcome to arrive at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends should be seated by 1:50 p.m. Commencement processional begins promptly at 2:00 p.m. Commencement ceremony lasts approximately 2 hours Flowers will be available to purchase in the lobby the day of the event. Inga Entheos is a Duluth based band sharing original music with a mix of belty vocals, classical guitar, and a driving, grooving rhythm section. “Entheos” is a Greek term for “divinely inspired to create.” With this intention, the lyrics and ambience of the music create a complex sound and thought process aiming to highlight unity and self expression. Front woman, Inga Weis, has crafted the current repertoire over the last four years. With a Nordic inspired blend of rock and folk, Inga Entheos seeks to steward a fun-loving and heart-felt musical landscape that is open to all ages. Hot Tamale Cosmos is a group of artists from the Northland who have all had their own projects and successes and have come together over common love of song and harmonies. These women have performed in such groups as, and not limited to: Danny Frank and the Smoky Gold, Boss Mama and the Jebberhooch, Ross Thorn Band, Junkyard Mule, Feeding Leroy and the Morris Park Singers. They are a new project and will be sharing original tunes as well as covers by artists such as Iris Dement, Bob Dylan and Gillian Welch. The Cosmos are Erin Aldridge, Colleen “Boss Mama” Myhre, Jocelyn Mickelsen, Jen Krussow and Sonja Martin. No Cover | All Ages | Family Friendly
