Too often, we mistake resilience for grit or willpower, when it’s actually a dynamic interplay between our biology, our environment, and the meaning we make of our experiences. In this talk, we explore the neuroscience of how we rise after hardship, the protective factors that help us not just recover but truly evolve, and the stories that shape our capacity to grow. Join the Duluth East Student Government at the Swing into Spring Festival on April 19th. This community centered event will offer family-friendly activities such as live music, dancing, face painting, bracelet making, yard games, rock painting, and free lemonade and cookies. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on baskets donated by local businesses. All proceeds will go directly to non-profits present at this event, such as The Depot Foundation, The League of Women Voters Duluth, The Damiano Center, and more. We will also be collecting canned food and gently used clothing items to be distributed in our community. All are welcome!

The Trinkets are an indie pop rock band from Duluth founded by Elsie Zimmerman (vocals/guitar) and April Dressel (drums). They’re inspired by the music of their parents’ generation like Green Day, Weezer, Nirvana, and Radiohead, but they are also students of modern artists such as Chapelle Roan, Billie Eilish, and Clairo. Although they are a new band, they’ve played a fair share of shows around town, including Spirit of the Times and Gag Me With a Spoon. They’ve been working on a debut EP, and have recently released an original single, Anabelle. Fronted by vocalists Jenna Harting and Lisa Wentworth, Mid Dream cranks out upbeat pop-punky anthems, soul searching ballads, and some things decidedly neither. With Rachel Riefenberg on drums, Matt Prois on bass, Alex Nelson on keys, and Bryan Wentworth toeing the line between lead guitar and synthscape, their tunes are filled with compelling textures and powerful harmonies. Wake Up Songs is the 7th offering from Rich Mattson and the Northstars, an American Cosmic Rock band based in the nether regions (Iron Range) of northeast Minnesota (Sparta, to be precise). The music explores the outer limits of their cosmic sound, with exploding drums, hypersonic guitars, slippery bass syrup, and soaring over the top of it, as always, the sweet harmonies of Rich Mattson and Germaine Gemberling. Their last full-length record, “Out There,” was released in 2022, followed by the 2024 single “Rendezvous With a Star” and 3-album set of solo acoustic versions from Mattson (“Spartan Tracks Vol. 1-3”).
