Photography & Art at the Rock, a monthly exhibit in the lobby of the Split Rock Lighthouse Visitor Center that showcases local artists, landscape and wildlife photographers of the area. For the month of June our featured artist is Jeff Benson. Artist Statement: “I retired from Transportation Consulting in 2015. At that time, my wife and I relocated from the Twin Cities to Duluth since our two sons attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and settled in the area. We wanted to be closer to our kids and our now six grandchildren. Since retiring, I’ve discovered a passion for acrylic painting, particularly capturing the beauty of Northern Minnesota. I’ve showcased my work at the annual Art in Bayfront Park in Duluth and had my paintings displayed at Duluth’s Lizzard Art Gallery. I am honored to have my art on display at the Split Rock Lighthouse during the month of June…

It opens on on Monday, April 29 at the Art Dock in the Dewitt-Seitz Marketplace in Canal Park. It features a collection of paintings done with watercolor, pen, collage and acrylic paint. Pavlatos says “Painting is a way to capture the moment. I enjoy connecting my life to the landscape before me. My paintings reflect nature’s impact on my life.” Sue traveled to Norway in May 2024 to paint and draw its beauty. It was a US cousins trip visiting Norwegian cousins and traveling the country. “I wanted to paint the beautiful vistas, and importantly, capture the moment with family. It was a pleasure to visit and revisit the farms, forest, and rocky coast of Norway. The connection on both sides of the ocean was poignant.
