This annual event commemorates the sinking of the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald and the total loss of the 29 crew members aboard on November 10, 1975. It is also a time to reflect on the memory of all lives lost on the Great Lakes. The lighthouse, fog signal building, and visitor center will be open for visitors. Guides will welcome visitors and provide historic site and shipwreck information. Throughout the day, visitors can watch a film about Edmund Fitzgerald in the visitor center, or join a guided tour exploring the history of Fitzgerald's final voyage. At 4:15 pm, the lighthouse will temporarily close while the names of the crew are read to the tolling of a ship’s bell, with a rendition of the Naval Hymn. The St. Louis County Historical Society has arranged for Denny Mager of Northern Specialty, an expert in antique appraisal, to be at your service beginning at noon in the Union Lounge (outside of the Board Room), which is on street level. The First-Ever DECC Gala: a Progressive Party through the Decades We’re excited to announce the inaugural DECC Gala, a one-of-a-kind celebration honoring the 60th Anniversary of the DECC. This isn’t your typical gala because the DECC, with 10 community venues, is anything but typical. Guests will embark on a progressive journey through the decades and across the DECC campus, experiencing the history of the organization in a truly immersive way. This Thanksgiving, join us for the Gobble Gallop — presented by Essentia Health. This 5K, 1-Mile, and Kids Run is Duluth’s favorite family tradition. Whether you’re racing or strolling, every step celebrates wellness, community, and the joy of moving together. Join us and be part of a Northland tradition that keeps hearts warm and feet moving! This event supports Safe Haven Shelter & Resource Center. A portion of the proceeds of the event as well as all partnership and participant donations go to helping Safe Haven continue their essential work in our community. Purchase Tickets Online Join us for the 21st annual Veterans Memorial Hall Remembrance Dinner on Thursday, December 3, 2026, in the Great Hall at the St. Louis County Depot. This year’s keynote presentation, “Shipbuilding in the Twin Ports During World War II,” will be presented by Stephen B. Daniel. During World War II, shipyards throughout Duluth and Superior built military and support vessels for the war effort. Stephen Daniel will explore where these ships were built, the types of vessels produced, and the people who worked in the local shipyards, including the important role women played as many men left the region for military service. The evening begins with a social hour at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m. and the keynote presentation at 7:00 p.m. Dinner will be catered by Valentini’s, and guests may also participate in a silent auction.
