4th Annual Native American Heritage Day Celebration at the Depot

An event organized by the St. Louis County Historical Society with support and guidance from the American Indian Advisory Committee (AIAC) which includes members from Fond du Lac, Bois Forte, and Grand Portage.
The St. Louis County Historical Society, in partnership with the 1854 Treaty Authority and the Depot, presents Native American Heritage Day on Saturday, November 13, 2021.
The Event is Free and open to the public and will be held from 11am-3pm. The main event will take place in the Great Hall of the St. Louis County Heritage & Arts Center (the Depot) at 506 W Michigan.
November is nationally recognized as Native American Heritage Month and this event is intended to celebrate local Ojibwe history, art, music, and culture.
The year’s festivities will include food catered by Jim N Jo’s Katering, located in Cloquet. New Society exhibit unveiling in the Fesler Galleries will include: Pow Wow Regalia, Past and Present, and Round Lake Traditions, Pow Wow Regalia.
Drum music by SugarBush and speakers Vern Zacher, AIAC Committee member and former president of the Society from 2008-2010, and Michele Hakala-Beeksma, AIAC Committee member and former president of the Society from 2019-2021, will also be featured.
Children’s activities during the day include drum building with Michael Gillespie, AIAC Committee member, crafts by the 1854 Treaty Authority, lacrosse demonstration with Jaylen Strong, AIAC Committee member, and Ojibwe Storytime in Eli’s Farm with Society Museum Assistant Abby Johnson.
