Ideally, how far out should travel be booked if visitors want to get the location/rooms of their choice in Duluth?
- Ashley/Duluth Press Building: Around 2-3 months in advance.
- Becky/Canal Park Lodge: A couple months out in the peak summer season. It can often be the same day on weekdays during the winter months. I suggest always planning ahead when traveling to Duluth.
- Piper/Park Point Marina Inn: Be sure to book at least two weeks in advance. Duluth is a popular destination, and we fill up fast!
- Nikki/Pier B Resort and Hotel: In the summer and during Bentleyville, booking a few months out is ideal, but four to seven days out is pretty common.
If someone is looking for more affordable options, what time of year, day of the week, etc. should they plan on coming to Duluth?
- Ashley/Duluth Press Building: More affordable options are available during the week and off-season times (November-March).
- Becky/Canal Park Lodge: November through May, Sunday through Thursday.
- Piper/Park Point Marina Inn: Join us Sunday through Thursday this winter! Explore Bentleyville’s festive lights, experience Duluth’s winter wonderland, and enjoy our most affordable rates of the season!
- Nikki/Pier B Resort and Hotel: Midweek – or Sunday, Monday, Wednesday. Any time after MEA Weekend in mid-October and before Bentleyville begins in late-November. Otherwise, anytime January through April.
What are some things you recommend visitors do and/or experience during the shoulder season/winter in Duluth?
- Ashley/Duluth Press Building: There are countless cross country skiing trails in and around Duluth, and Spirit Mountain is great for downhill skiing and snowboarding. Lake Superior is still beautiful in the winter months and Bentleyville is spectacular. Taking in a UMD Bulldogs game is really fun, especially if visitors are up for one of the many hockey tournaments held in the area. Obviously, if anyone is looking to eat, shop, or drink, the Lincoln Park Craft District is a MUST. (Duluth Grill for brunch, Minnesconsin Merch for local artist shopping, Corktown Eatery for lunch, Goat Hill Marketplace for more shopping, OMC Smokehouse for dinner, and Burger Paradox for late night.)
- Becky/Canal Park Lodge: Hiking the trails located within the city! With a bit of snow cover and the cooler temps, you can feel like you are deep in the remote woods. However, you’re just around the corner from your favorite restaurant, shops and hotels! And of course, Bentleyville during November and December.
- Piper/Park Point Marina Inn: During your stay in Duluth, be sure to experience the magic of Bentleyville “Tour of Lights,” a dazzling holiday display that is perfect for the whole family. For outdoor adventure, hit the slopes at Spirit Mountain for some skiing or snowboarding. Don’t miss out on catching a local hockey game to get a taste of Duluth’s winter sports spirit. And for a bit of history and elegance, take a tour of the beautifully decorated Glensheen Mansion, especially stunning in the winter months. There’s something for everyone to enjoy!
- Nikki/Pier B Resort and Hotel: Get out hiking or check out the North Shore on a short day trip. Check out Bentleyville, Glensheen, or sit by our outdoor campfires and roast s’mores. We will find something fun for you!
What is one thing a traveler to Duluth shouldn’t leave home without?
- Ashley/Duluth Press Building: Do not come to Duluth without a jacket, and that is a must for any season since the weather changes so drastically here.
- Becky/Canal Park Lodge: A jacket no matter the season!
- Piper/Park Point Marina Inn: A traveler to Duluth should definitely pack a sturdy pair of walking shoes. With its scenic waterfront, parks, and trails, the city is ideal for exploring on foot. Comfortable footwear will make it easier to take in all the sights, whether you’re strolling along the Lakewalk, exploring parks, or hiking in the surrounding areas.
- Nikki/Pier B Resort and Hotel: Walking shoes!
Any upcoming events/happenings occurring at your property now through the end of the year you’d like travelers to know about?
- Ashley/Duluth Press Building: There are some fun events happening near us, including Trick or Treat on Superior Street in Lincoln Park in October, Sweater Weather Market Days at Enger Lofts in November, and Jonathan Thunder Painting Time Workshop Series in November and December.
- Becky/Canal Park Lodge: We are just a short walk to Bentleyville!
- Piper/Park Point Marina Inn: We’re excited to announce discounted rates at Park Point Marina Inn during the Bentleyville Tour of Lights! Enjoy cozy accommodations during this festive event.
- Nikki/Pier B Resort and Hotel: Get to Bentleyville! We have a wagon that gets you pretty close to the entrance, and the views of this magical place can’t be beat!
What’s something surprising you recommend visitors do/experience on a trip to Duluth?
- Ashley/Duluth Press Building: Jump in Lake Superior when it’s nice out (65 degrees and above)!
- Becky/Canal Park Lodge: No matter the day of the week, there is always live music somewhere, a play, or some event happening. Duluth is a happening place; you just have to search a little for something that fits your taste and desires! Always make sure to spend time by the lake, whether it is skipping rocks, searching for agates or lake glass, a charter fishing excursion, or aboard a Vista Fleet cruise. The lake brings comfort to all that experience it! If you do not want to get up close to the lake, you can ride a train along the lake aboard the North Shore Scenic Railroad and take it all in!
- Piper/Park Point Marina Inn: Consider exploring Duluth’s craft beer scene. With a variety of local breweries, a tasting tour can provide a fun and flavorful experience, showcasing the city’s growing reputation as a craft beer destination!
- Nikki/Pier B Resort and Hotel: Try a fishing experience through a charter, rent a pontoon from our Marina, or go to a UMD game.
