2024 Native American Heritage Day
SLCHS Native American Heritage Day is Saturday, November 23 from 11AM-3PM at the St. Louis County Depot (506 W. Michigan St., Duluth, MN 55802). Opening remarks begin at 11:30AM, with a panel discussion at 1PM on the ideas of citizenship and its meaning for Indigenous community members living in northern Minnesota. A free lunch of frybread tacos from The Food Stand will be provided, along with open museum galleries and craft activities for all ages.

The St. Louis County Historical Society and Veterans Memorial Hall 2024 Remembrance Dinner will take place within the Great Hall of the St. Louis County Depot on Friday, November 1 at 5pm. The night’s keynote speaker will be Colonel Jeffrey Williams, US Army. COL. Williams holds the record for longest time in space for an American man, with over 534 days logged. Edmund Fitzgerald Memorial Beacon Lighting
This annual event commemorates the sinking of the freighter Edmund Fitzgerald and the total loss of the 29 crew members aboard on November 10, 1975. It is also a time to reflect on the memory of all lives lost on the Great Lakes. The lighthouse, fog signal building, and visitor center will be open for visitors. Guides will welcome visitors and provide historic site and shipwreck information. Throughout the day, visitors can watch a film about Edmund Fitzgerald in the visitor center, or join a guided tour exploring the history of Fitzgerald's final voyage. At 4:15 pm, the lighthouse will temporarily close while the names of the crew are read to the tolling of a ship’s bell, with a rendition of the Naval Hymn. Following the ceremony, the beacon will be lit, and the tower will be open again to tour until close at 6 pm. Be sure to bring...

This year the Duluth Women of Today are joining forces with the Veterans Memorial Hall in sponsoring our Veterans Day event. The ceremony will take place on Monday, November 11, 2024, in the Great Hall of the St. Louis County Depot. The program will begin promptly at 11 AM and will include patriotic music and guest speaker, Roger Reinert, Mayor of Duluth. Following the Veteran’s Day Ceremony, at 1:00 PM, the PBS Documentary, “Cold War Secrets of Northern Minnesota” will be shown.
