Whether your dog is your ride or die adventure partner or just enjoys getting pets on a patio, Duluth offers many experiences perfect for your pup. Be it trails, dog parks, or pet-friendly patios and lodging, your best friend is always welcome on your next trip to Duluth.

Below are just a few ways to explore the city with your four-legged friend:

Outdoor Adventures

From casual strolls along the lake to hiking along rugged terrain, you’ll find an outdoor adventure perfect for all kinds of pups. To make sure it’s a good visit for everyone, please keep your dog on a leash (unless in a designated off-leash area) and bring plenty of bags for picking up after your pooch.

The Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) features sections for all levels (human and canine), with more than 30 miles of the 300-plus-mile trail passing through Duluth. Leashed dogs are welcome on the SHT, so just bring water for you and your pup, and don’t forget to pack out any waste.

Park Point Beach is the perfect place for you and your dog to stroll the sandy shores of Lake Superior. Make a day out of it and pack a picnic!

The Lakewalk provides nearly eight, dog-friendly miles of paved pedestrian and bike trails along the shores of Lake Superior, stretching from Bayfront Park to Kitchi Gammi Park. There are also plenty of benches along the way if you just want to take in the view with your best friend.

Dog Parks are a great way to get energy out and let your dog run leash-free. There are four dog parks within city limits, including Jean Duluth Dog Park, Keene Creek Dog Park, Observation Dog Park and K9 Haas Memorial Dog Park.

When your dog has been a very good girl or boy, there are many dog-friendly gift shops to reward them with a souvenir. A great way to remind you both of your time together in Duluth!

A Place for Fido: Located in Fitger’s complex, A Place for Fido has collars, leashes, food, treats, toys and beds and more for the “active, outdoor and working dog.” Stop on by with your dog – the staff would love to meet them!

Fido’s Pawsome Gifts: From the owners of A Place for Fido comes Fido’s Pawsome’s Gifts, located just across the hall in Fitger’s Complex. It includes an array of pet-themed items, including Duluth-based Minnesota Nice Dog Company tee-shirts, picture frames, signs and more.

Matilda’s Dog Bakery & Boutique: Located in the Lakeside neighborhood, Matilda’s offers all natural treats and goodies for your dog (and cat!) The Buckaroo Biscuits, bark-scotti and seasonal treats are handmade onsite. There are also great accessories for dogs and cats, including toys, leashes, bandanas and more.

Restaurant Paw-tios + More

Many restaurants throughout Duluth allow dogs on their patios, just be sure to check ahead of time. A few options include:

Love Creamery: After a day of Duluth adventures, you’ll need to reward yourselves with some tasty treats. Dogs are allowed on Love Creamery’s two patios, and they even provide pup cups.

Fitger’s Brewhouse: Dogs are welcome on Fitger’s patio, and even inside the Fitger’s complex and in select stores (just not the restaurants). A great option to escape inclement weather!

At Sara’s Table Chester Creek Cafe: The staff happily welcomes your dog to their large patio and supplies them with water bowls (and plenty of pets).

Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake: Does your dog like music and views of Lake Superior? Who doesn’t! Bring them along next time for an outdoor concert on Sir Ben’s patio.

And of course, we can’t forget about Duluth’s breweries and cideries, because what goes together better than a cold brew and your best friend? From lakefront views from Canal Park Brewing’s patio to the heated patio at Bent Paddle, to Duluth Cider’s and Wild State Cider’s dog-friendly patios, to Ursa Minor Brewing, where your pooch may become a featured “Patio Pup” on their social media channels, most Duluth breweries and cideries welcome dogs on their paw-tios year-round.

In addition to outside seating, many of Duluth’s coffee shops also allow dogs indoors, including Amity CoffeeYellow Bike (inside Fitger’s), 190 Coffee and Tea and The Back Alley. Perfect places to caffeinate with your canine.

After a full day of fun in Duluth, everyone will be ready to put their feet/paws up. Some pet-friendly lodging options include Fitger’s Inn, La Quinta Inn and Suites, Sheraton Duluth Hotel, The Suites Hotel at Waterfront Plaza and Pier B Resort Hotel. Be sure to call ahead and check for pet-friendly room availability and policies.
