Science on Deck

Welcome aboard the R/V Blue Heron! The LLO Science on Deck event is free and will take place from 11 am to 3 pm. Enjoy guided tours of the research vessel from the crew, interact with graduate students working on freshwater research, and explore engaging displays. The public can hear a presentation at 1:30 pm from the Large Lakes Observatory’s Dr. Ted Ozersky titled “What Lakes Do In Winter.” Location: (DECC) Twin Ports Harbor near the Great Lakes Aquarium at 353 Harbor Drive, Duluth, MN. ABOUT LLO: Located on the Duluth campus of the University of Minnesota Duluth, LLO is the only institute in the country dedicated to the study of large lakes throughout the world. The Great Pumpkin Train

All aboard for a fall adventure like no other — the Great Pumpkin Train! Once a year, a magical pumpkin field appears along the tracks, and the only way to reach it is by train. Everyone gets a pumpkin! Admission to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum is included, so when you’re done pumpkin-picking, you can explore trains, history, and plenty of indoor fun at the Depot like balloon twisting, ventriloquist, magic, and more. It’s a Duluth tradition that’s equal parts festive, cozy, and a little bit quirky — just like autumn itself. When your train pulls into the pumpkin patch, every ticketed passenger gets to claim their very own pumpkin to haul home. Christmas at the Lighthouse

Christmas at the Lighthouse is a guided experience for guests to explore the restored keeper’s house while learning about how the families lived at the station during the winter and the holiday season in the 1930s. Guests also have the opportunity to create a vintage, homemade ornament to take home or decorate the tree in the house.
