IN THE ZEITGEIST ATRIUM: Boreality celebrates the skies and birds above the shore of Lake Superior. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a mural painted on polytab fabric, 8’ x 15’: it is available to be adhered to an exterior or interior wall. Panel paintings on cradled birch panels are also in the exhibition. Ann Klefstad, a sculptor and artist who has done many public art commissions in the region, has been impressed by the amazing clouds occurring this year. She has long been an admirer of corvids, and her sumi-e paintings of them are popular. In this exhibition, the two subjects converge. Klefstad is a recipient of a fiscal year 2025 Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Individuals grant, awarded to enable her exploration of mural painting on polytab, to expand her public art practice. Mark your calendars for an insightful journey into a pivotal, yet often overlooked, period of our state’s past. Join us on Friday, August 8, 2025, for a special event with acclaimed historian Greg Gaut as he discusses his compelling book, The War at Home. Did you know that when Americans went to war in 1917, the conflict wasn’t just fought overseas? Here in Minnesota, it was a time of intense internal struggle. Imagine a Minnesota gripped by: Bitter polarization as farmers and workers challenged the wealthy. Fierce campaigns for women’s suffrage and against alcohol. The fight for racial justice by African Americans against Jim Crow and lynchings. Rising nativism and a flagrant disregard for democratic norms. Please bring a non-perishable food item for donation to CHUM’s food shelf. Visit our website for further information.
