Rich Mattson & The Northstars

Over the course of his long and illustrious career sprouting from the same teal backwater as Bob Dylan on northern Minnesota’s Iron Range, Rich Mattson came up learning songs from John Denver to Van Halen with a little Elvis Costello and Neil Young tossed into the mix. Add in some heaping handfuls of U2, the Replacements, and CCR and blend until the ingredients come splattering in bits and pieces and you have around 500 tunes and this fella’s discography. Now residing in Sparta with his partner Germaine Gemberling, the two have been writing, recording, and performing together since 2010. Their many albums have received rave reviews and high praise from the indie rock/americana/jangle-core crowd. The Northstars perform all around MN and beyond and have been invited to share the stage with such notable acts as the Built To Spill, Minus 5, the Jayhawks, Drivin’ and Cryin’, and Trampled By Turtles….

The Comedy of Errors

Come to the NorShor Theatre to experience Shakespeare’s most fast-paced and delightfully chaotic comedy, The Comedy of Errors, running May 29 – June 7. Shipwrecked and separated 33 years earlier, two sets of long-lost twins find themselves in the same city on the same day, sparking a whirlwind of mistaken identities, misguided love, and increasingly absurd encounters. Whether audiences are die-hard Shakespeare fans or discovering this classic for the first time, The Comedy of Errors promises an evening of nonstop laughter, heartfelt moments, and a reminder that even the wildest circumstances can’t break the bonds of family.

Pièce de Résistance: Symphonic Works of Protest

The Duluth Civic Orchestra (DCO) presents Pièce de Résistance: Symphonic Works of Protest — a free concert featuring five works written in defiance. A symphony broadcast at enemy lines during the Nazi siege of Leningrad. A suffragette anthem conducted from prison with a toothbrush. A banned dance smuggled into a concert hall. Music that refused to be silenced. The DCO is a community orchestra of more than 50 musicians of all ages and backgrounds. We’ve been bringing free concerts to Duluth since the 1980s — because we believe live orchestral music belongs to everyone. Join us May 26 at 6:30pm at Lincoln Park Middle School. Free admission, all are welcome!
