IN THE ZEITGEIST ATRIUM: Boreality celebrates the skies and birds above the shore of Lake Superior. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a mural painted on polytab fabric, 8’ x 15’: it is available to be adhered to an exterior or interior wall. Panel paintings on cradled birch panels are also in the exhibition. Ann Klefstad, a sculptor and artist who has done many public art commissions in the region, has been impressed by the amazing clouds occurring this year. She has long been an admirer of corvids, and her sumi-e paintings of them are popular. In this exhibition, the two subjects converge. Klefstad is a recipient of a fiscal year 2025 Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Individuals grant, awarded to enable her exploration of mural painting on polytab, to expand her public art practice. A Slovenian History, Culture and Cuisine Festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Depot in Duluth, Minnesota. The Festival is co-sponsored by the Minnesota Branches of the Slovenian Union of America, (SUA) and the St. Louis County Historical Society. The Festival is dedicated to honor and preserve the Slovenian legacy, heritage and culture. The program is designed to educate and expose people of Slovenian decent and the general public to the history, culture and ethnic cuisine of this important European nation. A special invitation will be sent to local Grade School History teachers to have their class attend the Festival. The Festival is divided into 2 sections, the first section is free and open to the public. Starting at 10:00 a.m., the program will open with Miro Medved, Honorary Consul, Republic of Slovenia welcoming the attendees and making opening remarks, followed by presentations by Norman Setnicker on…
This class is intended for students with no or very limited experience throwing pots on the wheel to explore the medium and gain a solid foundation helpful in more advanced classes. Learn to center, create basic forms on the wheel, and trim and finish your pots, practicing the basic forms to get comfortable working with clay on the wheel. Try multiple techniques to find what works best, and experience the properties of clay as a material. Using stoneware clay and an electric kiln, students will create handmade dishwasher and microwave-safe original ceramics. There are a total of eight sessions facilitated every Friday from August 29th – October 17th, 2025.
