Please join the Kathryn A. Martin Library for a screening of the documentary, The Librarians, as well as a banned books discussion panel. Located in Bohannon Hall 90 on the UMD Campus. ABOUT THE FILM Librarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy and our First Amendment Rights. As they well know, controlling the flow of ideas means control over communities. In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQIA+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of a large-scale coordinated extremist movement fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale. Runtime: 88 min. Free
Gatherings by Sheraton presents local guitarist/singer Mark Connolly for a dynamic solo performance. Mark is known for his stripped‑back, authentic style, crafting a sound that feels both personal and deeply relatable. “My performances are about connection,” he says. “It’s just me, the music, and the audience – exactly how these songs were meant to be experienced.”
Celebrate the flavors of the season with an interactive evening of autumn-inspired cocktails at Sheraton Duluth. During this hands-on gathering, guests will craft their own signature fall cocktail using a selection of seasonal spirits, fresh ingredients, cozy spices, and festive garnishes.
