2025 SLCHS Native American Heritage Day
St. Louis County Depot 506 W Michigan St., Duluth, MN, United StatesThe St. Louis County Historical Society (SLCHS), under the guidance of the SLCHS American Indian Advisory Committee, is proud to announce its annual Native American Heritage Day from 11AM to 3PM on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the St. Louis County Depot (506 W Michigan St, Duluth, MN 55802). The event is free and open to the public. “Native American Heritage Day is when we get to share our culture with the public,” says Michele Beeksma, SLCHS board member and American Indian Advisory Committee member. The goal, according to Michelle, “is to provide a common space where all can learn about and experience some of our local Native American heritage.” Native American Heritage Day gives families and folks who are just curious the opportunity to see, hear, and taste our regional Ojibwe culture. The evening will feature local icon Dave Anderson (Northern News Now, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary), who will deliver the keynote address sharing his powerful interviews with local Pearl Harbor survivors. The dinner’s purpose is to continue to remember December 7th, 1941—the "Day that will live in Infamy"—84 years ago. History in a Pint: “Hold the Line”
Lake Superior Railroad Museum 506 W Michigan St., Duluth, MN, United StatesVeterans Memorial Hall, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society, and the Lake Superior Railroad Museum announce their next event in the local history presentation series, History in a Pint. The presentation “Hold the Line”, will feature storyteller/author Darrell Pedersen, the 2024 winner of the Northeastern Minnesota Book Award for Best Memoir. His book, "Campfire in the Basement: Reflections from a North Woods Lake,” reflect his deep appreciation and love for the people, critters, lakes, swamps, and woods of Minnesota. His latest book, “Who Will Carry the Fire?” Pedersen celebrates the long line of people who have been a part of the network that has worked together to make possible and to care for the amazing country and world that we live in. He honors parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles - even ancient ancestors. He will center his talk around some of the Veterans’ stories from his family tree....

The St. Louis County Historical Society has arranged for Denny Mager of Northern Specialty, an expert in antique appraisal, to be at your service beginning at noon in the Union Lounge (outside of the Board Room), which is on street level. Follow event signage. Registration is in person only and cut-off at 2:30PM, so the appraiser can finish appraisals by 3PM. Guests are called up in the order that they are registered.
