From Spiritual to Spirituals: Music of Praise and Hope

Featuring guest soprano Hope Koehler (West Virginia University, American Spiritual Ensemble), the Arrowhead Chorale explores sacred music in a variety of expressions from early chant to Mozart’s majestic Coronation Mass K. 319 to Sanctus from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass. The focus will then shift to the American spiritual, a truly unique and powerful genre described as “breathing the prayer and complaint of souls boiling over with the bitterest anguish.”
