Behold 1000 watts of ship-stopping power! Experience the sights, the history, and the technology behind Split Rock Lighthouse, a signature Minnesota landmark anchored on the rocky coast of Lake Superior. Join MNHS in commemorating the SS Edmund Fitzgerald each year on the anniversary of its sinking in Lake Superior. Share a moment of reflection as the lighthouse shines for the 29 mariners lost on that fateful day in 1975 — and all those who have perished on Lake Superior. Buildings/Grounds, Visitor Center/Museum Store, Fog Signal Building & Lighthouse open only during site hours. Free parking for Historic Site visitors during site hours only. A State Park vehicle permit is required during off hours.

    ’Tis the Season—to Step Back in Time! Celebrate the holidays with a glimpse into winter life at Split Rock Lighthouse and discover Christmas traditions from the 1930s. Join a guided tour of the keeper’s home, help us decorate for the season, and learn how families celebrated the holidays nearly a century ago. As part of the experience, guests can create a vintage-style ornament to hang on the keeper’s Christmas tree or take home as a keepsake. It’s a festive way to start a new family tradition! **NOTE**: The tours take place from 10:30 AM - 11;30 AM, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM, and 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays except on 12/25
