Ryan’s passion began early, shaped by family trips to national parks and the iconic imagery found in postcard scenes — moments that sparked a goal to create images that hold that same beauty and feeling. With a background in mechanical engineering, Ryan brings a technical approach to his craft, specializing in panoramic photography. Michael Risku offers a full picture of this way of life: the geography of the lakeshore that determined where boats could land, the types of fish that thrived in Lake Superior’s waters, the earliest foot trails between Fond du Lac and Grand Portage, the steamboats that served settlements before construction of the road. Boats, shoreline, wildlife, and open water frequently appear in Lisa’s paintings — reflecting both the region’s cultural heritage and the enduring beauty of its natural environment. Across all subjects, she follows one guiding principle: every piece contains water. In her work, water is not limited to lakes or rivers. It may be flowing, still, or frozen as snow. Even a moose deep in the forest or a winter bear is connected to the landscape through water. Carolyn Olson is a narrative artist working and living in northern Minnesota. She uses gouache, oil, and pastel to depict everyday life stories. We are proud to feature Voyageur Artists, a collective of local artists from Two Harbors whose work reflects the beauty and character of Minnesota’s North Shore. This group exhibit brings together a diverse range of styles, perspectives, and mediums — all rooted in a shared connection to the landscapes, waters, and communities that define this region. From painting to photography and beyond, each piece offers a unique interpretation of place. Voyageur Artists are dedicated to inspiring creativity within the community through exhibitions, workshops, and educational opportunities. Their work not only celebrates the North Shore, but also supports the next generation of artists through scholarships and outreach.
