    Multiply your art! Learn how to transfer your designs onto a linoleum block, carve, print, and repeat. Artist Alyssa Swanson facilitates creating imagery based on the print “Coral Fantasy” by the renowned printmaker Emmy Lou Packard using a collaborative process. Packard was known for her paintings, prints, and murals, as well as her activism. At the end of class, students will have 3 prints to gift, keep, or trade. This class is structured for students ages 13+. No experience is necessary.

    Over the course of 3 sessions on November 2, 9, and 16 - Create your own oil painting based on a photograph of a favorite place or memory. Bring a photograph to class—perhaps a beloved family dog, a landscape scene, or an event in your life. Students will be led through the process of learning to look at a photograph through the eyes of a painter, how to transfer a drawing of the image onto a canvas, and how to fully develop an oil painting that will inspire others.

  • Ceramic Luminaries with Ashley Hise

    Duluth Art Institute (Lincoln Park Building) 2229 W. 2nd St., Duluth, MN, United States

    Create a clay vessel perfect for holding light and casting interesting shadows. Ceramic artist Ashley Hise will share surface design techniques and strategies for building up and subtracting areas of a pot to create a unique sculpture designed to be illuminated. A wheel-thrown leather hard pot will be provided to use as a ‘blank canvas.’ All levels of experience are welcome. The luminaries will be available for pick-up after December 6th.

    Over the course of four sessions on October 11, 18, 25, and November 1: create stunningly beautiful oil paintings with the simplicity of a limited color palette. Limiting the palette allows for efficient and logical color mixing, instant color harmony across your canvas, and easier decision-making while painting. Students will examine limited palette paintings by famous painters, employ their colors to achieve similar results, and create their own original paintings based on the principles. Students will be in charge of bringing their own supplies: please see the supply list on the link provided.
