    Junk journaling (or art journaling) is accessible to everyone, fun, a great way to upcycle materials you already have, and a way to let go of preconceived notions of any artistic outcome. This class is all about the journey. These two sessions are designed to be taken either together or individually. Participants in the first session will create their own unique junk journal. In the second session, participants will explore color and materials via some art exercises, then use those results to start embellishing their junk journals. Everyone is welcome—no prior journaling or art experience is necessary, and creating with friends, family, and/or loved ones works great. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts.

  • Plein Air Autumn Workshop with Matt Kania

    This is a half day (3-hour) workshop for plein air painters wishing to learn a confident approach to outdoor landscape painting in Autumn. Matt will demonstrate and provide one-on-one guidance toward painting a scene with fall colors. Bring your own pochade painting box with tripod or plein air easel, along with paints, brushes, palette knife, odorless mineral spirits and paper towels. The session is geared towards oil painting, but students wishing to use gouache or watercolors are welcome to bring those supplies. A camping chair and clothing for inclement weather are also suggested. The painting location for our workshop will be determined by weather forecast and announced prior to class.

  • Beginning Clay with Matt Larson (Session 1 of 8)

    This twice-monthly educational session is open to any 13+ youth wanting to express themselves creatively through photography. Club meetings include field trips, individual and group projects, short info sessions, one-to-one skill development, and discussion of each other’s work.   • Creative Studio First Wednesdays: Record Your Art

    Celebrate the process of making art! Sign up for a 10-minute session to record an overhead video of your hands drawing, sketching, painting, or creating using our overhead phone mount. No need to be camera ready, the focus stays on the artwork and the hands that make it. All you need to bring is your artwork and your smart phone. You'll leave with a unique short video capturing your creative process to keep for yourself or to share with friends and family. Funded by the National Endowment for the Arts

  • Creative Studio First Wednesdays: What Is a Critique with Robb Quisling

    Ever wonder what makes a critique actually helpful? Join artist and educator Robb Quisling for a conversation about the purpose of critique, how it can strengthen your creative practice, and how to give and receive thoughtful, constructive feedback. Listen in while you work on your own creative projects in our multipurpose classroom space. Following the presentation, participants are invited to stay for an optional one-on-one critique with Robb to put these ideas into practice. This session is perfect for both developing and emerging artists. First Wednesdays is part of our regular Weekly Creative Studio program, offering additional artist resources, special guests, and professional development opportunities during open studio work time.
