SUMMARY:History in a Pint: Eagle’s Nest Photo Album
DESCRIPTION:Veterans Memorial Hall\, a program of the St. Louis County Historical Society\, and the Lake Superior Railroad Museum announce their next event in the local history presentation series\, History in a Pint. \nThe presentation will feature an item from our Collection known as “The Eagle’s Nest Photo Album.” The speaker will be Jay Hagen\, the Veterans Memorial Hall Program Manager. It will take place in the Lake Superior Railroad Museum at the St. Louis County DEPOT on Thursday\, October 23\, at 5:30 pm. \nThe Eagle’s Nest Photo Album is part of the St. Louis County Historical Society’s collection stored in the Albert J. Amatuzio Research Center. Duluthian Veteran Lawrence Swan brought home the album when the 101st Airbourne was given the privilege to be the first unit to enter Hitler’s infamous Eagle’s Nest during the close of WWII in Europe. The history of the album and the story of its acquisition and accessioning will be discussed. \nThe History in a Pint program series is presented by Veterans Memorial Hall wherein a veteran\, or a veteran’s story\, is presented about their experiences serving in the military while guests enjoy a pint of beer or two from some of our local brewers that will be available for purchase. All are welcome to attend\, ask questions and join in camaraderie. Attendance is free of charge\, but donations are welcomed. Seating will be available. \nPARKING: Parking is available around the back of The DEPOT complex. Follow signage to the North Shore Scenic Railroad entry; parking is accessible below Michigan St. from 4th Ave. West. Enter the building at the North Shore Scenic Railroad entry. \nJay Hagen | Veterans Memorial Hall Program Manager\n506 West Michigan St.\, Duluth\, MN 55802 | 218-733-7500\njay@thehistorypeople.org | www.Vets-hall.org \nVeterans Memorial Hall was established in 1910 and is a joint program of the St. Louis County Historical Society and the military service veterans of northeastern Minnesota with a mission to gather\, preserve\, interpret\, and promote the rich and diverse human experiences of veterans\, their families and communities\, through museum\, archival and educational programs.
