SUMMARY:Hartley Adventure Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Part adventure race\, part scavenger hunt\, the Hartley Adventure Challenge is a fun race that will have teams of hikers or bikers race to solve clues and find hidden checkpoints along the trails of Hartley Park. Complete the challenge by finding as many checkpoints as you can before time runs out. Teams that find the most checkpoints in the shortest amount of time will be declared the winners. Prizes will be awarded to winning teams in each category. Teams that finish all checkpoints will also receive a small award. Familiarity with the park will help\, but clues may consist of a mix of Hartley park knowledge\, Hartley history\, nature knowledge\, trail knowledge\, general knowledge\, and more. Whether your goal is to be competitive or just spend some time outdoors\, you’re bound to have a great day exploring some of our favorite locations in Hartley Park. \nDate: Saturday\, August 29th\nRace Check-In Opens: 9 AM\nRace Start: 10 AM\nRace End: 12:30 PM\nEvent Ends: 1:00 PM\nCost: $75/team\nTeams: Minimum of 3\, max of 5 people\nTeam Category: Bike or Hike\nAge Limits: This is an all-ages family friendly event* \n*Children under 12 years of age will not count towards your team limit\, but will still be required to have a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian. \nPost race snacks will be available at the finish line. \nPre-registration Required

DESCRIPTION:Discover the tension of the beauty and ecological impact of invasive plant species through the captivating artwork of Duluth-based artist Monica Ihrke in her upcoming exhibition\, “Invasive Plants in My Backyard\,” opening at Hartley Nature Center on May 16\, 2025. \nThrough the intricate technique of relief-printed linoleum\, Ihrke meticulously captures the forms of invasive plants found in her own backyard\, transforming these often-overlooked species into compelling works of art. This new body of work is the result of Ihrke’s exploration supported by an Individual Artist Project Grant through the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council. \nIhrke’s artistic vision goes beyond mere observation. Her powerful prints aim to foster familiarity with local invasive plants and inspire tangible action within the community.
