DESCRIPTION:A Peer-led gathering on Loss\, Grief\, & Belonging\nPaula Williams will hold the space for these peer-led gatherings. Paula is a long-time member of the Northland community having first come to the area in the late 90’s to live and work with the Loaves and Fishes community\, then moving to a nearby farm in 2000 where she tried her hand as a flower farmer and hosted gatherings in the big red dairy barn. Motherhood settled her in to life in the country\, until she moved back to Duluth in 2024. Paula has worked as a life coach for over 20 years\, pivoting to therapy in May. She has been imagining this kind of monthly grief gathering for years and is grateful to Halcyon House for the opportunity to gather in its unique space.\nFree Event.\nIf you pre-register\, we can get an idea of the group size. SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Artist Paul LaJeunesse
DESCRIPTION:Paul LaJeunesse creates large-scale\, site-specific murals that reflect the historic\, identities\, communities and locations. His work is rooted in research\, collaboration and storytelling. Through his process he transforms public spaces into a shared narrative. \nPaul LaJeunesse received his Master of Fine Arts in painting from Bowling Green State University in 2006. He is an Elizabeth Greenshields grant recipient\, and a 2007 Fulbright fellow where he created a body of landscape paintings in Iceland. He has exhibited nationally and internationally\, with solo exhibitions in Oregon\, Idaho\, Washington\, Missouri\, Indiana\, Minnesota and Iceland and group exhibitions in Saitama and Tokyo Japan\, and numerous states in the United States. He is a public artist with 7 murals and multiple community murals. He has taught at Western Oregon University\, Georgia State University\, The College of St. Scholastica\, Anderson Ranch Studio and The Grand Marais Art Colony\, and currently at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. His artwork investigates the relationship among individual memories of time\, space\, and place as a way in which we assign meaning to experiences and construct our sense of identity. \nJoin us to welcome this talented artist into the Halcyon House gallery. By the end of the four weeks you will have a better understanding of yourself\, and how you move through the world. \nGraduates from a previous series can join any class individually for $10 for practice and self development. \nNo new students after the 1st class. Each class builds on itself and becomes overwhelming for new students to try to catch up mid series. We will offer this series again throughout the year.

SUMMARY:The Art of Wintering Well: Finding Connection in Winter
DESCRIPTION:Winter can often feel isolating due to cold temperatures and less daylight. This can lead to more time spent indoors and reduced social encounters. We know (through research) that social isolation can have serious health implications. We also know that increasing social interactions can trigger endorphins which improve mood and resilience during the winter months. We will discuss and practice building connection. (p.s. you’re doing it by attending this workshop!) \nEach date will be a “stand alone” workshop that will relate to\, but the will not directly build on\, other weeks. \nThe workshop will occur on Saturdays from 10:00am -11:30am at Halcyon House.
