Tony will present “Drying Out Duluth: From Temperance to Prohibition\,” exploring Duluth’s complicated relationship with alcohol—from the city’s early liquor ordinances and temperance movement to Prohibition and the creative ways Duluthians continued to enjoy a drink. Following the talk\, enjoy dessert and a special 1920s-themed experience to round out the evening. \nDress to impress and embrace the spirit of the 1920s for this one-of-a-kind night at Glensheen. SUMMARY:Concerts on the Pier
DESCRIPTION:Plan Now For A Perfect Summer Night at Glensheen\nCelebrating its 11th anniversary in 2026\, the Concerts on the Pier series is a FREE event every Wednesday\, July – August. Bring a lawn chair or explore the grounds to find the perfect spot to enjoy music by local favorites. Come by car\, foot or watercraft – all people and ages are welcome! Food and beverages are available for purchase. The event is free and open to the public from 5:30 to 8 pm. Gates open at 5 pm\, however\, for those interested\, early access can be obtained by purchasing grounds admission or a tour. Each night\, the opener will perform from 5:30-6 pm and the headliner will play from 6:30-8 pm. \nAt Concerts\, guests can connect with neighbors and friends\, play lawn games\, grab some grub from a local food truck\, enjoy a refreshing drink\, eat locally-made ice cream\, and take a seat by the shores of Lake Superior. Guests are encouraged to paddle or boat in to view the concert from the water\, or are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show from the shore. For each concert this year\, Glensheen will also offer a shuttle bus (with a suggested donation) between the UMD campus and Glensheen for each concert this year. Food and beverages are available for purchase. The event is free and open to the public from 5:30 to 8 pm. Produced by members of the Outdoor Painters of Minnesota\,\neach work was painted live on-site\, capturing the estate’s landscapes and architecture in real time and natural light. \nFrom quiet woodland creeks and vibrant formal gardens to the intricate details of the mansion and boathouse\, this exhibit showcases the diverse perspectives of artists immersed in Glensheen’s setting. The spontaneity of plein air painting brings an immediacy and authenticity to each piece\, reflecting not only the environment but the moment in which it was experienced. \nThis gallery is available for viewing at the end of our regular tour route and open to all guests with their purchase of a tour ticket.
