SUMMARY:What Do You Collect & Why? A Community Art Exhibit / Show & Tell Event
DESCRIPTION:What Do You Collect & Why?\nA Community Art Exhibit / Show & Tell Event with Artist Susanna Gaunt\nSuperior\, WI – What drives us to collect? What stories do our collections tell? Find out on Friday\, April 11th at 5:00 PM as the Superior Public Art Commission and the Douglas County Historical Society invite you to a special event featuring a meet-and-greet with local artist Susanna Gaunt and a unique opportunity to explore and reflect on the concept of collecting. This free event\, part of the exhibit titled (Re)Collect\, will offer a deeper dive into the intersection of art and history\, inviting visitors to explore both contemporary works and items from the community’s extensive historical collection. \nGaunt\, a Twin Ports-based artist known for her multifaceted approach to drawing\, photography\, and printmaking\, uses art to explore the human condition through both philosophical and scientific lenses. Inspired by the wonder of historic curiosity cabinets\, natural history museums\, and personal specimen collections\, her work sparks reflection on how we engage with objects\, both past and present. In her exhibit\, (Re)Collect\, Gaunt asks viewers to consider their own collecting habits\, while drawing connections between her work and the objects held within the Historical Society’s collection – one of the largest of its kind in the state. \nAs part of this event\, Gaunt will be present for a meet-and-greet where attendees can learn more about her creative process and the inspiration behind her work. In addition\, the event will feature a community show-and-tell – where attendees are encouraged to bring their own unique items they collect\, sharing the personal significance behind these objects. \nThe exhibit\, sponsored by the Superior Public Art Commission\, is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together and engage in a thoughtful discussion about what it means to collect\, preserve\, and reflect on history. Thanks to the generous support of the Superior Public Art Commission\, this event and exhibit are available to the public at no cost.
