SUMMARY:Rich Mattson and the Northstars
DESCRIPTION:Over the course of his long and illustrious musical career sprouting from the same teal backwater as Bob Dylan on northern Minnesota’s Iron Range\, Rich Mattson came up learning songs from John Denver to Van Halen with a little Elvis Costello and Neil Young tossed into the mix. Add in some heaping handfuls of U2\, the Replacements\, and CCR and blend until the ingredients come splattering in bits and pieces and you have around 500 tunes and this fella’s discography. Now residing in Sparta MN with his life and love partner Germaine Gemberling\, the two have been writing\, recording\, and performing (among other things) together since 2010. The latest incarnation of the Northstars (with longtime drummer and cohort Keely Lane and bassist Kyle Westrick) features Duluth’s Dan Anderson on keys. Their 6 albums have received rave reviews and high praise from the indie rock/americana/jangle-core crowd. \nThe Northstars perform all around Minnesota and beyond and have been invited to share the stage with such notable acts as the Minus 5\, the Jayhawks\, Drivin’ and Cryin’\, and Trampled By Turtles. Somewhat of a Minnesota music staple\, Mattson is well known for his songwriting and outstanding showmanship as well as his work with literally thousands of artists at his Sparta Sound recording studio. The new Rich Mattson and the Northstars album (available on LP\, CD as well all streaming) “OUT THERE” came out in November of 2022 on Poor L’amour/Sparta Sound.

DESCRIPTION:Peat Boggs is an eclectic quartet that plays an organic blend of groove\, jazz\, and twisted folk\, shifting easily from smooth melodies to hints of doom and surf rock. Cole Webster shapes the band’s sound with gritty\, expressive guitar. Ben Wagener holds down the low end with melodic\, wigglin’ bass lines. Chris Shea drives the groove on drums and all things rhythm. Charlie French delivers murky yet reflective lyricism that weaves seamlessly through the band’s lush arrangements. Secret weapon Cavan Denning joins in on sweet\, slippery pedal steel. \nMarlena Boedigheimer\, a tenor saxophonist from Duluth\, Minnesota\, began playing at 14\, inspired by Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s “T.R.O.Y.” Her passion for jazz grew through mentorship and high school jazz band participation. She pursued a Jazz Studies degree at the University of Minnesota-Duluth\, where personal struggles deepened her connection to music. Influenced by avant-garde artists like Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders\, Marlena developed a unique sound and performed with local groups like AfroGeode and the Gemstones. She also contributed to various genre-spanning recordings and was selected for the Women in Jazz Organization’s 2021–2022 mentorship program. After graduating in 2022\, she released music under the name “pink marlena” and is now pursuing a Master’s in Improvisation at the University of Michigan. A member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa\, she integrates her Indigenous heritage into her music\, focusing on language revitalization and cultural storytelling through her recent and upcoming projects. \nNo Cover | All Ages | Family Friendly

DESCRIPTION:Bonfire Music Group recording artists the Roe Family Singers are a Hard-Core Old-Time band from Minneapolis\, MN. Led by wife & husband Kim and Quillan Roe\, the band marries old-time sounds from barn-dances\, fiddle pulls\, and county fairs with a punk rock delivery. \nFeaturing banjo\, Autoharp\, guitar\, and Appalachian clogging\, the band and family of fans have been regularly filling Minneapolis’ 331 Club every Monday night since 2005. They’ve shared the stage with Doc Watson\, Ralph Stanley\, Mike Seeger\, Del McCoury\, Jesse McReynolds\, the Grascals\, Jim Kweskin & Geoff Muldaur\, Junior Brown\, Asleep at the Wheel\, and John McEuen & John Carter Cash.
