“Minnesota’s favorite waterfront destination is open for business as usual. The June 20 rains attracted lots of attention. While it’s true families, homes and some neighborhoods sustained damage it’s also true the vast majority of Duluth's large geographic footprint is unscathed. Help spread the word that all of the popular visitor areas and events along with everything you love about traveling to Duluth is as good as ever!” Terry Mattson, President/CEO, Visit Duluth

The Canal Park store at the Aerial Lift Bridge was unaffected.
Grandma's Saloon & Grill Canal Park is OPEN!
Since the flooding events last week, alot of mis-information has been passed around. Not only is Grandma's Canal Park open, we did not sustain any damage. The entire Canal Park area is relatively damage free, and all businesses are open. Many of the pictures floating around the internet depict residential areas that are not frequented by visitors of our city, however the dramatization of this event has depicted Duluth as completey devastated. While there are hundreds of families and homes that are in need of assistance, the reality is that much of Duluth remains open, and is in the same condition it was prior to the flooding. Please help spread the word that not only is Grandma's Canal Park Open for business, but Duluth is open for business as well!

Duluth tourism officials say don't stay away
11:27 AM, Jun 22, 2012 www.kare11.com
From Duluth Mayor Don Ness
Duluth is open for business!!! Please spread the word that it IS safe to travel to Duluth and travel our city streets. Crews have worked diligently over the past 36 hours to blockade those unsafe streets - other streets are safe for travel. Please do come to Duluth and support our local businesses - they could use the support.
We can't afford a lost weekend in late Jun...e - these days are critical to the success of our local business owners. If you're able, get out an spend a few dollars - it'll help get these businesses through a tough time.
The League of Minnesota Cities is having their convention, right now. Over 300 people from across the state made it safely to Duluth. We have great events this weekend including the Park Point Art Fair. Please help spread the word to the region that these events ARE going forward and it would be a huge boost to our community to have successful events.
Stay vigilent and use common sense. Don't approach the streams and DON'T drive around barricades!
More updates to come - it has been a busy but very productive day. Thanks for all of the support, prayers, and offers to help. Right now, the best help you can give is to your neighbor and your favorite small businesses - the larger community projects will come down the line.
