Apr 17th: Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra-Vivaldi. Live.
Time: 8 pm
From the chirping birds of spring, through the buzzing insects and summer storms, through the inebriated fall festivities, to the icy chill of winter, Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons performed by the Milwaukee Symphony's brilliant concertmaster Frank Almond highlights a program of three perennial favorites. The Impressionistic French Claude Debussy's masterpiece of orchestral colors, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, is followed by Sir Edward Elgar's compelling set of 14 variations, each one a tongue-in-cheek musical depiction of one his friends. Elgar took the meaning of the 'enigma' to his grave with him. Can you tell what it is?
•Vivaldi The Four Seasons (Frank Almond, violin)
•Debussy Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
•Elgar Enigma Variations

Apr 22nd- Jun 19th: "Imprints" 2010 Earthday Show
Time: 1 pm – 6 pm Friday-Sunday & by appointment
Earthday has kaleidoscopic meanings. Earthday’s purpose was to bring attention to the concept of exercising responsible stewardship for our natural environment. The human footprint in the 20th century had resulted in degradation, devastation, and poisoning of the water, earth and air we depend on for life, and the burgeoning environmental movement sounded an alarm. Four decades later, while continuing to remediate the damage than has been and is still being done, the time is ripe to move beyond simply doing no harm. “Imprint” is about leaving positive human traces on the earth. It focuses on ways that we interact creatively with the natural world. Through recreation, meditation, cultivation, imagination, and appreciation, the artists of the Northern Printmakers Alliance present their own kaleidoscopic vision of how we may gently synchronize our own rhythms with that of the full spectrum of life on the planet. Held at Northern Prints Gallery, 318 North 14th Ave. East (across the avenue from the Burrito Union), Duluth. Free and open to the public. Opening April 22, 5 pm – 8 pm.
