The Tweed Museum of Art annually exhibits a broad selection of artworks from its collection of 6500 objects. Feb 1st- Feb 28th: Art for Hire: Prints from Minnesota WPA
Time:
Art for Hire: Prints from the Minnesota WPA presents lithographs by Minnesota artists employed by the Works Progress Administration, 1933-43. Artists from all over the state participated, and received weekly paychecks to produce paintings, prints, murals, sculpture, and to teach classes and workshops.Free admission. Nikolai Kuznetsov, violin and Viktor Portnoy, piano. Nikolai Kuznetsov has taught at Petrozavodsk State University since 1980. Viktor Portnoy is a Distinguished Artist of Russia and Karelia, professor, head of the Piano Department and prorector at Glazunov Petrozavodsk State Conservatory. Two of verismo’s most beloved operas, Suor Angelica by Puccini and Pagliacci by Leonvacallo represent the beauty and the tragedy that make opera so moving. In Puccini’s tragic story, Angelica is a woman who is banished to the convent by her family when she has a child out of wedlock. When she finds out that her child has died, she realizes she has no more reason to live. Pagliacci is the story of revenge.
